HISTORY
Uttar Pradesh Handball Association, Lucknow(Hindi: उत्तर प्रदेश हैंडबॉल संघ, लखनऊ) (UPHA) is the administrative and governing body for handball, beach handball, and wheelchair handball in the Uttar Pradesh under the ageis of Handball Association India.

In Uttar Pradesh, sport of handball was founded by Dr. Anandeswar Pandey from Deoria & Late S N Pandey (Varanasi ) who was an alumnus of SAI Patiyala. He was founder/father of handball, games in Uttar Pradesh.

UPHA was formed in Lucknow, on 17 November 1971,The UPHA was registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI , on 15 December 1972. The founding members of UPHA were Varanasi, Deoria, Lucknow, Gorkhpur, Faizabad, Meerut, Gaziyabad.

The 1st UP Senior Men’s and Women’s State Handball Championships took place at KD Singh Babu Stadium, Lucknow in 1973. Varanasi won the gold medal, and Faizabad secured the silver medal in the men’s competition, while Deoria won gold, and Varanasi won silver in the women’s competition.
